Detroit Space Program—2012

The result of a 3-day Future Blitz workshop led by John Bielenberg, the Detroit Space Program is the answer to the question “How can we create positive change in Detroit in 48 hours?” We used the process Bielenberg taught us of ‘thinking wrong’ by freely mind mapping from random words, then using chance to pull two random phrases “Rip your face off” and “Monkeys in space.” Working from this prompt, we came up with the Detroit Space Program, with the goal to expose the spaces of Detroit and how they could be used. The project is effective because it is surprising; as Detroit seems like the least likely city to host a space program.
