43.7% Less—2012

Made with:
217 pennies  ⁄  A rotary perforator from South Korea

43.7% Less is a poster for a fictitious event for the Corktown neighborhood in Detroit. Through research, it was found that home values was an important issue in the community, particularly as the homes are devaluing at an alarming rate (on average, 43.7% over the last decade.) Each penny on the poster resides in a perforated square, inviting viewers of the poster to interact and ‘devalue’ the house in the poster. As a reward for their interaction, the square takeaway also serves as a reminder for the event.

Also pictured below is a process book documenting the different solutions explored before the final poster was produced. (In using a drill press for the screw post binding, a penny may have accidentally been drilled through.)
